Certainly these programs do not become popular for nothing. To start with, young folks are looking for role models to learn from. Many of them find it encouraging to watch contestants of their age fighting for their dreams. Talent shows also provide a platform for otherwise obscure people who have real talents.

As a student, I believe that talent shows are a superb means of relaxing and amusing people and can hugely relieve my strains. They should be encouraged and supported.
