6.长久以来，大运河对中国的经济发展发挥了重要作用，有力地促进了南北地区之间的人员往来和文化交流：翻译“大运河对中国的经济发展发挥了重要作用”时需使用固定短语play a role/part in(在……方面发挥作用)，“经济发展”翻译为economic development;“有力地促进了南北地区之间的人员往来和文化交流”与前面的内容并列，故“有力地促进了”翻译为并列谓语部分and has greatly promoted，“人员往来和文化交流”是翻译难点，翻译成the personnel and cultural exchanges，“南北地区之间的”翻译成介词短语结构between the North and the South，充当后置定语，修饰exchanges。
